Same words different people

In class we talked about the vocabulary that we posted and how they could have different meanings to other people.

I think that Hawthorne wrote Young Goodman Brown to let people know about what is going on. I think that Stephen King was so affected by this story because of the imagery used in the story. We can tell people anything we want with our imagination and can get to know people because they express how they are through their imagination.

1. We should not lie to ourselves because we are not doing anything to help ourselves

2. We are not brave enough anymore to say what we think and quote someone else.

Big Brother's first Impressions

George Orwell is saying that he thinks that the decline of a language can lead to having political and economic causes. Our language becomes ugly and inaccurate because of what we think and our language makes it easier to agree to what we think.

I Am Not [?] Entitled To My Opinion

I just read this except from Jaime Whyte's book Crimes Against Logic, and I now know that you are not entitled to your opinion and will be false if you says so.

-Say what you want to say even if it contradicts your self
-No matter what you do you are yourself
-Be yourself and then you will be recognized like that
-You don't get respect you earn it

I don't what to write about because this essay that Emerson wrote doesn't really get to me. I feel like this because it I could see what he's trying to make the reader do and feel, but its maybe because I don't read and can't see the quality of this essay that he wrote. I don't really feel it changing me because I feel like it doesn't go with me or isn't for me. It doesn't seem to talk to me or something like that, that's why it doesn't catch my attention. I listen to it and do understand it but I don't feel attached or moved by it.

-Being good instead of looking good

-Be good for yourself not for others

-Don't try and make others like you they have their own idea about you

-Not just exist for someone else

-Don't need to act good to be good

-People need to be understood and not just wanting to be understood

-People need to make their point clear

People need to be good instead of just looking good and need to be good for yourself and exist for yourself and not for anyone else. People need to not care about others and just be himself. They need to stop trying to act good to look good. They need to stop thinking that being good will make me look good, why just look good when you could be good. People also need to make themselves understood and not just get mad for no reason, they need to state their point so other people could understand them.

-should have the transcendentalist mentality and that we could do better then what other people think

-Don't care what other people think about you and just be yourself.

-Be yourself even if everything else tells you not to be.

-don't hide behind something else

In this part of the essay Emerson is telling us (From what I got) that you need to be yourself and you need to think and act like you would normally. You don't need to act or be someone else for other people. Just be yourself for being yourself and even if everything else tells you not to be yourself and be someone else, you have to go against the current and there you will find yourself. You have to be yourself to be your own hero.

First Impressions of "On Self-Reliance

Emerson wrote this essay on self reliance and talked about how people should be themselves. What got me interested is the Latin words in the beginning. The Latin words made me feel like it wants to connect to me somehow with a deeper feelings because he expressing the words that are the bases of many languages. It made the essay feel more serious and not like he's just saying it to say it. I feel that he made this with the intention to make people be unique and not follow the crowd of people.

How to get along online

It is important to get along online because you could get more people to like you. This will make you more liked and people will want to talk to you. You can use the techniques like being interested in what people say, and be genuine. You can also try to get to know people and care about what they are saying.
