My Learning Fall and Rise

On August 12 I entered a room that seemed to be the normal boring English class. I was the same guy who was bored out of doing vocab and essays in my English class. I didn't have fun expectations and I thought that this class was going to be boring.
The day I walked into class it felt like the same old boring English class but when I saw the teacher give us our options and walk out the room I knew that it would be different. We said yes to the blog because like me I'm sure that we were all bored of the same English class.
When we started to work I saw that we were doing something different and it was nice having a different English class. I started to feel like I kind of liked English and the journals were about different topics and not just about English. I was still not too sure about the blog because it was about posting on time and I procrastinate a lot. There were also new challenges like posting on time. There reading were a little boring but I got used to them. Some of the stories that I like were Young Goodman Brown, The Pedestrian and the Earth on Turtles Back.
The moment I started to procrastinate was when I felt the most tension because I felt all of the homework assignments and the posts that I needed to do. I felt like this class wasn't for me and just stopped trying but I said I already have this class so I might as well to well in it. I did all of the homework and the posts that I needed to do except the videos but still finished most of the work and posts unless I forgot some. It was really hard and annoying because I don't like to do a lot of work and especially for a long time.
I made some routines that helped me do my homework and finish my work on time to not have it all pile up on me. I do do the homework when I get free time and try not to forget about it or try to make an excuse. I finished my work and I feel that it contributed to my success because I had a lot of work that could bring my grade up to help me out. This helped me out on my blog posts and some posts that were me talking and just typing what I was thinking.
Now I am a different learner because of the blog because I now have a different experience that helps me kind of like English. I am more open to a not boring English class. In August I was not quite sure if this was going to be a good or bad thing but I now feel that this blog is a good thing helping me like English. A memorable moment that I liked in this English class was the way the class makes jokes making the lesson stick with me.

My Brian on Thanksgiving Break

This thanksgiving break I went with my family and had a little break to rest and organize myself. I went with my family and had fun. I relaxed a bit and then started thinking about school and what I needed to do.

Today I had an interview

Today I had an Interview and was hoping if you could give me feed back.

I think that Hawthorne wrote Young Goodman Brown to let people know about what is going on. I think that Stephen King was so affected by this story because of the imagery used in the story. We can tell people anything we want with our imagination and can get to know people because they express how they are through their imagination.

George Orwell is saying that he thinks that the decline of a language can lead to having political and economic causes. Our language becomes ugly and inaccurate because of what we think and our language makes it easier to agree to what we think.

I don't what to write about because this essay that Emerson wrote doesn't really get to me. I feel like this because it I could see what he's trying to make the reader do and feel, but its maybe because I don't read and can't see the quality of this essay that he wrote. I don't really feel it changing me because I feel like it doesn't go with me or isn't for me. It doesn't seem to talk to me or something like that, that's why it doesn't catch my attention. I listen to it and do understand it but I don't feel attached or moved by it.

They need to stop trying to act good to look good. They need to stop thinking that being good will make me look good, why just look good when you could be good. People also need to make themselves understood and not just get mad for no reason, they need to state their point so other people could understand them.

In this part of the essay Emerson is telling us (From what I got) that you need to be yourself and you need to think and act like you would normally. You don't need to act or be someone else for other people. Just be yourself for being yourself and even if everything else tells you not to be yourself and be someone else, you have to go against the current and there you will find yourself. You have to be yourself to be your own hero.

First Impressions of "On Self-Reliance

Emerson wrote this essay on self reliance and talked about how people should be themselves. What got me interested is the Latin words in the beginning. The Latin words made me feel like it wants to connect to me somehow with a deeper feelings because he expressing the words that are the bases of many languages. It made the essay feel more serious and not like he's just saying it to say it. I feel that he made this with the intention to make people be unique and not follow the crowd of people.

How to get along online

It is important to get along online because you could get more people to like you. This will make you more liked and people will want to talk to you. You can use the techniques like being interested in what people say, and be genuine. You can also try to get to know people and care about what they are saying.

Story of my Life

An event in my life that could be turned into a short story could be something like this. This one day I was in the car with my family and this guy just started running like crazy he was moving left to right like if he was a car, he would make noises with his mouth, he then jumped and stomped to a stop. We all looked at him weird and confused at what he was doing. The light then turned on and we left.

Let me walk you through the Pedestrian

Ray Bradbury was walking and a police officer went up to him and asked what he was doing Bradbury then said he was putting one foot in front of the other. The police officer arrested him until he was let go. He was shocked that he then wrote a story about it and put what he felt when he was arrested. This story became know as the Pedestrian, it was a story about his life and how he felt and what he thought when he was arrested.
The Pedestrian was a story that was very felt from the moment he started to write. He started off with a guy going for a walk in the night in November, he told it in such a way that it could make you feel what the character feels. He used plot to initiate his story by putting imagery and using it to make the story more alive.
Bradbury also uses things like tone to make the story feel more intense then it actually is. He used tone where the character Lenard Mead was getting stopped by the police officer. He first focused on the outside of what was happening by showing the surroundings, he then starts with the characters. He keeps on using imagery to show what the character felt like and to express Bradbury's feelings when he was caught.
He also uses the characters to make the story feel more natural and more uncanny. He uses a mysterious figure like the police officer to make the story more mysterious and puts all of what he felt when he was caught. He used what he felt before and after he was caught to make the story with more imagery and feel realistic and how it would feel if you were caught.
The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury was kind of an autobiography of himself putting his feelings and emotions of how he felt when he was stopped and arrested by the police. He used different characters and names and the year is in the future to make it a different story.

So this guy goes for a walk

So this short story that Bradbury wrote was made from something that happened to him in real life. In the story this guy named Lenard Mead liked to go for a walk and a police officer came up to him and took him away. This happened to Bradbury to just because he was walking. This drove to the creation of "The Pedestrian" based on his life. This affected the tone because it made it seem more real because he lived it and know what it felt like.

The Value of My Time

I have been spending my time by doing my homework and talking to my councilor about college and how I can get college credit. I have also been looking for scholarships that I might be able to apply for. I have also been looking for universities that I could get into and afford to pay.

Hawthorne and Poe on Dreams

In Hawthorne's "Young Good Man Brown" he tells us that he goes for a walk but we don't know exactly. In Poe's "Dream Within a Dream" we are being told that everything that we think is real is not. They both use the literary technique of repetition. They both imply that everything is a dream but say it in different ways. They both use different diction to show their point of views. They both use tone to make the story or poem mysterious and strange. They also both use personification to make the story seem more realistic or engaging. Hawthorne uses unique characterization to make the character seem real. They both use different styles of writing and usage of literary techniques to imply that everything is a dream.

How I Read

I just saw this essay and I thought it was good because it helps us understand how to love reading and how to keep on loving reading when you have everything else saying don't like reading. I personally don't like reading but sometimes I make an exception like my literary analysis book that I am reading.

Investing in Me

I will start working and start earning money for college. I hope I will be in college and working but I also am thinking of taking a year off and working the whole year. I could also borrow money from my parents and pay them back when I can. I was also thinking of working in school while continuing my studies. I think I going to work while I'm in high school and pay off the tuition that I have.

First Impressions of a Dream

My first impressions of a dream was that it was different and that I kind of like it. It made me feel the same but it made me think that he might be right and we are all just dreaming of dreaming when we fall asleep. This didn't help me write anything for my journal topic because I didn't see it before I did my journal topic.

My Essay Essay

Hawthorne made this story about a guy (Young Good Man Brown) who goes for a walk and leaves his wife alone in the house. He then meets an old guy which turns out to be the devil and want to give him a baptize reward, which is to look into people and know what their biggest crime is, his will give this to him for joining his faith. He is not tempted and then leaves to his home but cannot see everyone the same way because they know all of them hide a secret. The theme of Young Good Man Brown was to is to show that everyone has a dark side and has crimes they have committed. Young Good Man brown uses many different literary techniques to get show his theme like tone plot/setting and symbolism.

My thesis statement

I think that the main point of an essay is the reader being able to understand the writer. I think it is easier to write an essay with a prompt, depending on how good the prompt is. I would not know what to write about when I don't have prompt but sometimes I can, depending if I know a lot about the topic.

1. I think that Hawthorne's purpose for writing this story was to entertain people and also say things about the government.
2. I think that Goodman's wife is aptly named after reading the story because Goodman brown does not trust his wife.

4. It might have been real thing and not a dream.
5. He is the devil because the way he acts and wears.
6. The staff represents his mind and his conscious and his deep feeling.

So I wrote a lot of essays in school... I hated it. Mostly because I didn't know anything about the topic and I felt like I was repeating myself. All of the essays that was about me and what I did over the summer were very short because I don't do anything over the summer.

Thinking about what I want to think about

What happens after you die. That was my big question. We all have theories but no one really knows what happens. Some people say that before you die you have a flashback about your whole life and you see everything you did. That is only a theory because no one really knows what happens and if that did happen to someone they are dead so they can't tell us if it really happened. This is what people think when they are about to die and not when they are dead.

The earth on Turtle back

Today I read a story that native people told their children so that they would remember. This story is about a women who is pregnant and his husband uproots a tree, she falls in the hole and falls to the water. The animals catch her and then they try to help her by bringing earth to the top and save the women. They try but fail until a small muskrat and bring up earth. Then they put it on a giant turtles back and it grows. The women then is safe on the turtles back and plants seeds that she grabbed from the tree she uprooted and planted them then the earth formed. I personally think that his story is a myth because I don't think that the earth is a giant turtle because there are multiple islands.

The making of an Essay

Essays... I don't like them. I prefer to read, I don't like to read, then to do an essay. Doing essays in school are like standing under 100 degree sun for an hour. Yeah... its bad. In the past teachers had me do a brainstorm for making a good essay. I didn't like it because when I thought of something big and I wrote the small details I forgot about the big idea. Essays... I don't like them.

I care about your understanding

Today I'm trying to be understood by you. You who are reading, I want you to understand me. I wonder if you understand me, because if you don't then your just reading for reading. You wouldn't understand what I am trying to say, and you wouldn't care what I am saying. All  I care about right now is for you to understand me.

Training like a memory champion

"Train you brain Like a Memory Champion" was weird because you use sounds to memorize numbers, I just memorize the numbers. It says simple things that we all do and tells us we have been doing it right. It says that to remember names you need to remember their hair color, wouldn't that make you only remember their hair color and not their name?

How I read

I didn't really have books to read and if I did they didn't get me interested. Most of the books that I read were because they made me read it in school. I personally don't like to read because most of the books are stories and I prefer them told by someone or a movie.

The Socratic Method

The Socratic Method is something that helps students learn better and helps students communicate with other people better. The Socratic Method makes students ask question and even if they are wrong or right they will be congratulated for how good their answer is.

A Socratic Seminar

Today in class we had a Socratic Seminar and i didn't like it. We didn't really talk about anything it was mostly the teacher who talked. It was boring and nothing really happened.

The Mentor

The Mentor uses words that include the reader to feel like they are part of something big. He uses repetition to keep the reader interested and uses small sentences to sent a direct point. He also uses tone as a way to show what the government think about them.

Today I asked a Question

Today I asked a common question that everybody asks but nobody really knows. What happens when you die? I asked this question because it is interesting and because I want to know what happens, if you just feel like your sleeping or if you feel like your alive but your with all of the other dead people.
